The Princess, the Prince and the green-eyed Dragon (2012)

Co-Direction w/ Jakob Schuh, 7 min animated Short, produced by Studio Soi

A princess is fed up with her prince. A mysterious dragon appears. Golden Lola 2012

Full title: “The Princess, the Prince and the green-eyed Dragon”
“Die Prinzessin, der Prinz und der Drache mit den grünen Augen”

A lovely little 2D animated shortfilm for German children’s TV show “Siebenstein”, produced on location at Studio Soi in Berlin.
I directed together with partner-in-crime Jakob Schuh, and besides this also focussed on storyboard, look development, pipeline management, 3D-compositing on all 85 shots and general stuff.

This is a little princess story, in which a feisty princess is fed up with her macho-sunnyboy-prince and decides to take some action. It also involves a cute, innocent dragon dressing up as Santa Claus, a Grandma dragon, mild domestic violence, epic betrayals and big emotions … 😉

Final Character Designs by Jakob.

Jakob and me both grew up in Bavaria, so it was our special little idea to give the film a touch of bavarian flair in the costumes and the music.

It combines the graphic quality of hand-animated 2D Flash Animation with practical, physical sets.

The Characters were animated by our lovely french animation team consisting of the great Gobelins-Wizards Adeline Grange, Florian Parrot, Benoit Tranchet and Bong Nguyen.

The beautiful music was made by lovely Hans Franek.
Sets were built by Gottfried Mentor, at the workshop at Studio Soi Ludwigsburg.

Impressions from the Production.
Even though deadlines were very tight, we took some time to enjoy the little bits of sun the summer of 2011 offered in Berlin.
